What we visited during our Private Tour to Phang Nga Bay
While we were staying in Phuket we wanted to explore the beautiful scenery of Phang Nga Bay. Phang Nga Bay is a natural marine park famous for its spectacular scenic views and best sunrise panoramic views above Andaman See. Phang Nga Bay offers many islands and caves which you can explore. We wanted to cruise through the numerous limestone cliffs rising out of the sea. Enter the hidden caves, lagoons, and wild mangrove channels, and of course – to visit the James Bond Island!
Samet Nangshe Viewpoint
We drove over the Sarasin bridge into Phang Nga province. It was the first thing we visited during this early morning! Samet Nangshe Viewpoint offers stunning 180-degree views overlooking Phang Nga Bay and its hundreds of fantastic, limestone formations and small islands. The visitors reach the viewpoint by climbing up a dirt path or take a shuttle to the top. The view includes about two kilometers of mangrove forest and a chain of islands that stretches as far as the eye can see in both directions. Here you will find many photo opportunities but the actual winner is the spectacular view over Phang Nga Bay!
Phang Nga Bay
Phang Nga Bay is an area of exceptional natural beauty which is very close to Phuket and Krabi. With sheer limestone karsts, emerald waters, and an abundance of tropical islands, Phang Nga Bay is one of the most beautiful places in Thailand. Here you can find some of the oldest rainforests in the world and some of the best sceneries in Thailand! Phang Nga Bay, Thailand is located in the Andaman Sea. Found roughly 24 kilometers northeast of Phuket.
Khao Phing Kan – James Bond Island
James Bond Island was one of the key movie locations for the 007 “The Man with the Golden Gun” movie. And of course, what happens when a place appears in a Hollywood movie? It becomes a tourist destination! It has now become one of the most famous landmarks in Phang Nga Bay and we are lucky to have seen it without the tourists! This landmark Island, located at Phang Nga Bay, falls under a national park, hence you need to get your entry pass before you enter the premises. You can pay the park entrance fee on the Island itself (300 THB for foreigners).
Canoeing in the Mangrove Forest – Lod Cave
The next stop is a really cool limestone cave with stalagmites. We were canoeing at Koh Hong, but don’t worry if you don’t feel like sweating – you don’t have to do the canoeing yourself! There are already men lined up with boats and they will take you to all the great spots, all you have to do is lie back and relax! The best time to visit from October to April when the weather is clear and sunny. There is less rainfall and the weather overall is cooler and less humid, particularly during December and January.
Koh Panyee Village
Koh Panyee is a small island that was founded some 200 years ago when two Muslim families from Indonesia came and settled on the island after discovering its rich fishing grounds. Nowadays, more than 2000 people are living here. Although tourism is now a big part of the island's economy, they still rely quite heavily on fishing. Since then, a community has built up over the shallow waters to the south of the limestone cliff that makes up Panyee island. Some people call Panyee a floating village but it is actually not, as the houses are all on stilts. Fishing was the main trade here and is still important, but tourism is now well and truly established. Here you can see a school, a market, the local houses which are built on water, a Mosque, a health center and many shops selling items that are brought over from the mainland.
