Geographical Location of Sabah Borneo
Sabah is one of the thirteen states of Malaysia, located in the northern part of the island of Borneo. Borneo itself is the third-largest island in the world and is politically divided among Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. Sabah shares borders with the Malaysian state of Sarawak to the southwest and the Indonesian province of North Kalimantan to the south. It is bounded by the South China Sea to the west, the Sulu Sea to the northeast, and the Celebes Sea to the east, giving it a diverse and extensive coastline.
Weather and Climate in Sabah Borneo
Sabah enjoys a tropical rainforest climate, characterized by high humidity and consistent temperatures year-round. Average temperatures range between 23°C (73°F) and 32°C (90°F), making it warm throughout the year. The state experiences two monsoon seasons: the Northeast Monsoon from November to March, bringing heavy rainfall, and the Southwest Monsoon from May to September, which is relatively drier but still sees occasional showers. The inter-monsoon periods, typically in April and October, can also bring rain but are often marked by more stable weather patterns.
Best Time to Visit Sabah Borneo
The ideal time to visit Sabah is during the dry season, which runs from March to October. During these months, the weather is more predictable, and outdoor activities such as hiking, diving, and wildlife spotting are more enjoyable. The sea is calmer, making it perfect for exploring the stunning islands and marine parks. While the wetter months from November to February can still be a good time to visit, particularly for those interested in experiencing the lush, green landscapes, it’s important to be prepared for frequent and sometimes heavy rainfall.
Sabah offers a wealth of natural beauty and adventure, from the towering peaks of Mount Kinabalu and the dense rainforests of the Kinabatangan River to the pristine beaches and coral reefs of its surrounding islands. Its unique biodiversity, rich cultural heritage, and welcoming locals make it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure.
