As our incredible journey through Thailand drew to a close, my husband and I decided to spend our last three nights in the vibrant city of Bangkok. We chose to stay at the Riva Surya Hotel, a stunning residence situated on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River. Known for its understated luxury and spectacular river views, Riva Surya Bangkok offered us a serene retreat in the heart of the city’s oldest neighborhood. This modern boutique hotel provided us with a touch of style and charm, making it the perfect place to unwind before heading back home.
Location
Nestled in Bangkok Old Town, Riva Surya Hotel is ideally located for anyone looking to explore the rich history and cultural treasures of the city. The hotel is within walking distance of many major attractions, including the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, National Museum of thailand, Khao San Road, etc. We loved how the hotel provided a sanctuary from the bustling city, with its quaint and charming boutique atmosphere.
Just next to the hotel is a boat pier where you can hop on a Chao Phraya Express boat, making it incredibly easy to navigate Bangkok. The hotel’s proximity to MRT and Skytrain stations further enhanced its convenience. Staying here felt like finding an oasis in the midst of the city’s chaos, where we could relax and recharge before diving back into our explorations.
Style and Service
The Riva Surya boasts colonial-chic architecture influenced by a “Tropical Colonial” style, blending modernity with traditional Thai elements. The carved wooden shutters, shuttered doors, and intricate Thai carvings give the hotel a unique aesthetic that feels both luxurious and welcoming. The simple yet charming interior design accentuates the coziness and intimacy of the place, with modern artworks and artifacts complemented by touches of Thai heritage.
From the moment we arrived, the warm and friendly reception staff made us feel at home, greeting us with engaging smiles and genuine hospitality. It truly felt like we were being welcomed by old friends.
The Room
We stayed in a Deluxe Riva Room, which featured 40 sqm of contemporary Thai furnishings and a large tiled balcony with panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River. The room’s beach house/villa feel immediately put us in vacation mode.
The comfortable bed with 400-thread count linens, large working space, free Wi-Fi, LCD TV, safety deposit box, and air conditioning made our stay incredibly comfortable. The private bathroom was well-equipped with a shower and other amenities. The highlight of our room was undoubtedly the balcony, where we spent many evenings admiring the stunning river views.
Over the years, we have witnessed some of the most beautiful sky views in Bangkok, and the views from our room at Riva Surya did not disappoint.
Dining
One of the highlights of our stay at Riva Surya was the dining experience. From the relaxing café to the beautiful riverside bar, the gastronomy at the hotel kept us coming back for more. Breakfast was a delight, with an extensive buffet offering Western, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine. We particularly enjoyed the option to order eggs to our preference. The diverse selection ensured that we started our days off on a delicious note.
Babble & Grill
The ‘Babble & Grill’ restaurant was a standout, serving up authentic, slow-smoked BBQ. We indulged in the 12-hour smoked Beef Brisket, Australian Wagyu Steak, and full rack of ribs seasoned with their secret BBQ sauce. The meats, imported from the US, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, were of premium quality. Dining on the terrace with views of the Chao Phraya River and the Rama VIII Bridge was a memorable experience. The restaurant’s ambiance, combined with the mouth-watering food, made every meal feel special.
Riverside Bar
The Riverside Bar was the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. With a large list of cocktails and beverages, we enjoyed watching breathtaking sunsets over the river while sipping our favorite drinks. The serene atmosphere and stunning views made it an ideal spot to relax and reflect on our adventures.
Other Facilities
The facilities of the hotel were also quite nice. They offer a beautiful swimming pool in the center of the property, surrounded by a comfortable seating area. Although we didn’t have much time to lounge by the pool, we saw many guests enjoying themselves. The small gym on the first floor was another excellent facility, equipped with a treadmill, elliptical, free weights, and a multipurpose machine with a chin-up bar. I used the gym daily and appreciated its quality and convenience.

Our stay at Riva Surya Bangkok was the perfect way to end our Thailand trip.
