Hello! Today I have some photos from my last downhill sledding trip in the very popular winter sports Alpine village Kühtai – “The valley of cows.” A very romantic „label“, which is worth its name during the summer months, as you can see probably nothing else but cows … and tourists.
It comes to downhill sledding, Austrians understand a little bit more of what I was expecting to be at my the first time 8 years ago. Sledding for me is a combination of small hills and countless children, which do all day going up and sledding down…. an association based on my childhood memories. But here's a somehow different. Sledging is part of the Austrian winter traditions and culture and is one of the favorite pastime for (mainly) elderly during the sunny winter days and weekends. Sledding slopes differ from one another, some of which are quite steep and dangerous and definitely not suitable for beginners or milquetoast like me … Sledging is an activity which takes at least 4-5 hours, including 3.5 hours walking up the mountain, one hour of enjoying some schnitzel with fries in the hut, and 15 minutes of downhill sledding. The downhill could be a bit difficult for someone who has absolutely no experience with sledding as the speed gets really high.
Enjoy the day!
