Bamboo Island in Phi Phi Archipelago, Thailand

On the second day of our Phi Phi Islands trip, we joined a full-day speed boat tour to Bamboo Island, then we drove back to Phi Phi Dons Monkey Beach, and then finally visited Phi Phi Leh's famous Maya Bay and Loh Samah Bay!

A smaller boat picked us up at 8 a.m. from the hotel and left us at Tonsai Pier where we joined the others and started the tour.

One of the stops was the Bamboo Island which is a small beautiful island located about 13 km from Tonsai Pier and about 5 km from the north of Phi Phi Don Island. Bamboo Island is the most north-easterly island of the Phi Phi Archipelago and is a well-known place for snorkelling, swimming or just relaxing.

As it is a bit remote and less famous than the beach of Maya Bay of Phi Phi Leh, there is still some space on Bamboo Island beaches during the peak season from December to March. And if you are lucky enough to be there before the tourists come, the island can make you feel like in paradise when you arrive!

Measuring roughly, Bamboo Island is 600m wide and 700m long, so if you want to walk around the entire island, it will only take about 30 minutes for you to get around the tiny island.

The small island is very different from its Phi Phi archipelago sisters – here you will find no high rocky cliffs, but a flat island surrounded by white sandy beaches and a shallow coral reef which is recovering from the 2004 tsunami. It’s hard not to fall in love with its amazing beauty and pristine, its turquoise crystal clear water, white sand beaches and lush vegetation including countless Bamboo trees.
