How to Spend 2 Weeks in the Seychelles
I recently had the incredible opportunity to fulfil a long-standing dream of mine – a two-week getaway in paradise! Seychelles, a destination that has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, finally became a reality. When I envision a tropical paradise, there are five locations that immediately come to mind: Bora Bora, Fiji, Seychelles, Maldives, and Mauritius. While I was never particularly drawn to the last two destinations (for reasons unknown), the first two were unfortunately too far away from Austria to serve as a winter escape.
As we deliberated on our next travel destination, we began by considering the timing of our trip. After determining that we had a window of opportunity at the end of October and the beginning of November, I turned to my trusty companion, the “Where to Go When” book by Lonely Planet, for some offline research on the best places to visit during this period.
Lonely Planet’s recommendations included Fiji, but unfortunately, it was too far away for our current plans. Bolivia was another option, but since we were already set to travel to Mexico in December, it didn’t quite fit into our itinerary. The Great Southern region of Australia was tempting, but with only two weeks at our disposal, it simply wasn’t enough time to explore such a vast country. Oman also came up as a suggestion, but it didn’t pique our interest as much.
However, one destination stood out and captured my attention like chewing gum on a new sneaker – Seychelles. The name Seychelles lingered in my mind, and I couldn’t shake off the allure it held.
My first thought was: damn it! Seychelles are expensive! (Which was more like an assumption, than a statement)
My second thought was: Where is Seychelles exactly located? I knew it is somewhere in the Indian Ocean. What I didn’t know is that it actually belongs to Africa.
My third thought was: How long does the flight between Munich and Seychelles take? Here came the positive surprise – only 10-hour’ flight and the time zone is only 2 hours ahead!
After a week of comparing the flight pricing online, I booked the flight to Victoria. I can totally recommend doing the same – I saved about 300 € per person!
The first step was done! The second step was to get some information about the islands. Well, I didn’t know that Seychelles has 115 islands in total! And probably half an hour later I knew that my bank account could only support the idea of visiting the 3 main Islands: Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. All other islands that seemed interesting to me were rather too far away or kind of “private”. So, this decision was not very hard to make.
Seychelles. The first mistake is not allocating enough time for your visit. A mere week is the absolute minimum required to experience Seychelles adequately. Personally, I believe that even a week falls short and can lead to a rushed and stressful experience. Jumping from one place to another might be feasible for some, but it would not allow me to truly enjoy and immerse myself in the beauty of the islands.
The second “mistake” is selecting just one island as your base and attempting to explore the other two through half-day trips. While day trips can suffice for discovering uninhabited islands like Coco Island, Felicité, or Sister Island, they fall short for fully experiencing Mahe, Praslin, or La Digue. It is impossible to truly grasp the essence of Seychellois culture without dedicating ample time to each island and embracing their unique offerings.
Day 1: Flight to Victoria!
Our journey to Seychelles began with a seamless flight on Emirates, travelling from Munich to Dubai and then onwards to Victoria. The total travel time was approximately 10 hours, and we couldn’t have asked for a smoother experience. Upon our arrival at Victoria Airport, our first priority was to exchange our Euros for Seychellois Rupee. It’s worth noting that Seychellois Rupee can only be obtained in Seychelles, so we made sure to handle the currency exchange at the airport.
Without wasting any time, we made our way to Praslin shortly after landing in Seychelles. Prior to our trip, I had purchased ferry tickets online, which conveniently included a shuttle service to Victoria Pier and the ferry ride to Praslin. Additionally, we had pre-booked a car for the upcoming days, making our transportation arrangements hassle-free. As we disembarked at the Praslin pier, a representative from the rental-car company was already there, ready to assist us and provide us with the vehicle we had reserved.
Day 2, 3, 4: Praslin
Praslin Island, nestled between Mahe and La Digue, strikes a balance in terms of size. It is smaller than Mahe but larger than La Digue. The island is connected by a single road that runs from the northwest to the northeast. Praslin offers a multitude of captivating activities that should not be missed. From exploring pristine beaches and embarking on island tours by car or bus, to relaxing on the breathtaking shores of Anse Lazio and immersing yourself in the charm of Anse Volbert Village, there is no shortage of things to do. Additionally, make sure to visit Fond Ferdinand or Vallee Del Mar National Park for a glimpse of the island’s natural wonders and indulge in a hike to one of the scenic viewpoints. For a memorable experience, consider a day trip to St. Pierre Island and Curieuse Island.
During our time in Seychelles, we were fortunate to coincide with the annual Creole festival celebrated on all the islands. This vibrant event provided us with a priceless opportunity to immerse ourselves in the true spirit of Seychellois life and witness the rich Creole culture firsthand. It was a truly special experience, especially as we enjoyed the festivities during a captivating sunset on Praslin.

Day 5, 6, 7, 8: La Digue!
La Digue, the enchanting island! It not only captured my heart as my favorite island in Seychelles but also claimed a special place alongside Koh Tao as my all-time favorite destination. One of the must-do experiences on La Digue is renting a bicycle since the island is blissfully car-free, except for a handful of electric cars.
Once you have your trusty bicycle, the whole island becomes your playground, ready to be explored and discovered through delightful beach-hopping adventures. La Digue boasts some of the most breathtaking beaches I have ever laid my eyes on, unlike any other island I have visited. The presence of colossal granite stones, reminiscent of Koh Tao’s unique charm, adds a touch of natural wonder to La Digue’s shores. Snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, and visiting the famous Anse Source D’Argent are just a few of the exciting activities that await you.
However, my absolute favorite activity on La Digue was embarking on a rock-hiking expedition from Grand Anse to Anse Marron. The exhilarating journey allowed me to immerse myself in the island’s rugged beauty, traversing picturesque trails and witnessing awe-inspiring vistas along the way. La Digue truly lives up to its reputation as a happy island, offering unforgettable experiences that will leave you yearning for more.

Day 9, 10, 11, 12, 13: Mahe!
Mahe is the biggest island in Seychelles so there are enough activities you can choose from! We rented a car for the entire stay and this was the best decision ever! Our accommodation was near the famous Beau Vallon Beach, where it was raining most of the time! Luckily, 10 minute of drive and the bad weather stayed behind us! It turned out that the rain clouds get easily stuck in the mountains above Beau Vallon which was the reason for the bad weather.
We explored the whole (!!!) island by car – luckily me, I didn’t have to drive. The roads are not bad, but narrow and curvy! And on the top of that, you have to drive on the left side. But travel need some sacrifices! If you want to see everything you need to do anything 😀
Some of the top activities in Mahe are: exploring the island, beach hopping, visiting Victoria, strolling through Eden Island, snorkelling and scuba diving, having a drink or two at Takamaka Rum Distillery, driving the Sans Soucis Road (good luck :D), hiking to the best viewpoint called Venn’s Town “Mission Heritage Site”, enjoying the two best beaches (my opinion) Petite Anse and Anse Soleil, etc.
Day 14: Fly Back Home!
Unfortunately, it is hard but time to say Goodbye! We know we will come back for sure 🙂 Seychelles is the ultimate beach destination and everything one beach lover like me can wish for!
